Welcome!

Welcome to the fund-raising website
for the Delta Chi chapter of Delta Tau Delta
at Oklahoma State University!

UPDATED DECEMBER 9th, 2011

This website is dedicated to our fundraiser to renovate the Shelter.

Our status letter sent in December, 2011, is only being mailed by regular mail to all Alums for whom we only have physical mailing addresses and no e-mail addresses.  The letter is also being sent to all Alums for whom we have current e-mail addresses.

If you receive our status letter in December by regular mail, it is because we do not have your e-mail address.  To save the expense of mailing by regular mail, if you have an e-mail address, but receive our December 2011 letter by regular mail, please send your e-mail address to us at:

OSUDeltShelter@aol.com

Below you will find new photos regarding some of the renovations we have made through December 2011.  The photos of the living room were taken after Mom's club decorated for Christmas.

If you would like to make a donation, your donations may be payable, and sent to:

From when we first began our fundraiser in April, 2010, we have made significant renovations and repairs.  To date, we have made approximately $300,000 in improvements, repairs, and renovations to the Shelter.  Every expense incurred has been paid in full, with no additional debt load incurred by Housing Corp or on the Chapter.

While we have listed many of the improvements made in our recent letters, we thought you could better appreciate the restoration efforts by viewing some "before" and "after" pictures.

You can click on any thumbnail photo below to enlarge the picture for easier viewing.

Ladies/Guest Bathroom

We do not have any "before" pictures, but before remodeling the ladies simply described their restroom as "gross".

The remodeling of the ladies/guest restroom included: replacing all light fixtures and plumbing fixtures, except for the toilet which was required to remain so we will be in A.D.A. compliance.  The remodeling also included repairing holes in the ceiling.  A granite counter-top was added, along with two new mirrors, all new paint, and decorations.

Kitchen:

We spent approximately $20,000 in acquiring new kitchen equipment, sink and related items.  Not all new purchased equipment are shown in these pictures.

Formal Dining Room:

Before we started the fundraiser, the house only had a "garage sale" mixture of silverware and plates that served approximately 45.  For meals serving more than 45 or so, the chapter was using paper plates and plastic forks, knives, and spoons.  We had approximately 50 chairs, most of which had paint on the seats and frames from years of being used while painting Homecoming decorations, and most of the cloth seats were torn.  Our old dining room tables were in bad shape and could only seat approximately 60 people.

We purchased new flatware, place settings, and glassware in order to serve up to 100 people.  New dining room tables have been purchased which seat 8 persons per table, to go with the 100 chairs we purchased. The chapter can now easily seat 100 people for formal dinners.

The paneling in the dining room was refinished and resealed, eliminating the gouges, scratches, and marks that had accumulated over the last 25+ years.

The ceiling has been replaced with 2 X 2 white drop edged tiles.  We replaced all of the existing ceiling lights and added a few extra.  We replaced the old, broken, blinds in the window and recovered the window treatment.  The old couches, shuffle board, and tv on a floor stand have been removed to increase dining room space.

Two (2) 55" flat screen televisions have been installed in opposite corners of the room.  The televisions are hooked up to the main system in the living room, enabling the Actives to have PowerPoint presentations, use of Excel programs, use of MS Word, and all other uses that a computer monitor is capable of doing, because the televisions are also connected to the Internet.

Living Room:
Before Renovations

Living Room:
After Renovations

The living room has had the most changes.  Those changes include: filling in the pit, new window treatments, new ceiling with 2X2 white drop edged ceiling tiles, a new fireplace front with fireplace grill, a sandstone etching of the Greek letters "DTD" was installed immediately above the fireplace, the existing furniture was recovered and restained to cover up 20+ years of scratches, marks, and gouges, new furniture purchased, and all new window treatments.

As you will see from the photos, we have installed above the fireplace a 65" flat screen television with a surround sound system, that is hooked up to the internet, and has PowerPoint presentation capability.  The Actives used the PowerPoint program during "Greek Week" for Rush purposes.

Many new wall hangings and decorations were obtained, including replacing the "Friendly Delt",  which was in the house from approximately 1970 to somewhere in the mid to late 1980's.  Can you find it?

On one of the pictures below, you will see the Delt Crest mounted on the wall above a couch.  This Crest is a one-of-a-kind, is etched in zinc, mounted on oak wood, is approximately 3 feet in height and 2 feet in width, and weighs more than 60 pounds.  The area immediately outside of Mom's apartment has also been completely refurnished.  The living room has been completely re-carpeted, painted, and has a new wood baseboard and new crown molding.  The pictures below do not do justice to how the living room looks in person.

Second Floor, North Wing "Before" Photos

Second Floor, North Wing "After" Photos:

The second floor has been completely redone.  Some of the restoration efforts include installing in ALL 16 rooms: 2 custom desks, reconfiguring and installing new custom closets with drawers, new 2X2 white ceiling tiles, new smoke alarm system which is hard-wired (eliminating the old battery operated alarms), new paint, ceiling fan with lights and programmable Heat/AC unit.

While not clear in the pictures, a steel supported shelf has been placed between the two beds, against the wall and has been welded in place.  This shelf will give much more needed space to the Actives for placing items such as a refrigerator, stereo equipment, etc.  Two new custom shelves with an electrical outlet have been installed next to each bed in between the new steel supported shelf and the ceiling, giving each Brother a very convenient and accessible storage area for alarm clocks, cell phone and charger, books, etc.

The hallway has been recarpeted, painted, and new 2X2 drop-edged ceiling tiles installed.  Additionally, new ceiling light fixtures have been installed.

Bathrooms:

There are 8 adjoining bathrooms for the 16 rooms on the second floor, north wing.  Each bathroom has a new sink, and new cabinet with drawers.  There is a new light fixture, mirror, and hooks for hanging towels.  As you will see in the photos, the floor and bottom half of the walls have been re-tiled.  While we do not have any photos of the shower, they have also been re-tiled, and all have a new shower door, new shower head and shower trim.  There is a new overhead light and exhaust fan.
"Before" Outside Pictures of Storage area

For many years, the Chapter had used an area next to the basketball court for storing a lot of iron, steel, wood, etc. that the Chapter uses for Homecoming as well as a storage shed.  All of this was visible from University Avenue and frankly, looked awful, as you can see from the photos below.

"After" Outside Pictures of Storage Area and New Fence

The old storage shed which was falling apart, was replaced with a new storage shed and was moved to the north end of the parking lot making it barely visible from University Avenue.  All of the steel, iron, wood and "debris" that had been stacked up beside and behind the old storage shed has been removed.

The old fence was dilapidated and parts had fallen down.  The area between the adjoining property owners and the fence had grown up to where in places it was well over 3 feet tall.  Because portions of the fence were missing, this over-growth was visible from University Avenue.  The old fence with rotting wood supports has been replaced with a new fence with steel supports.  The over-growth has been removed, and the area now looks clean and maintained.

Current Outside Photos of Shelter

Below are some current photos of the outside of the Shelter.  Some photos are taken from the Alpha Delta Pi front yard looking north across University Avenue, and the other view is from the east side looking west across University Circle.
